Karnataka, a leading state in innovation, has discovered a new way to heal deep cuts without stitching. Say no to needles, not only if you are a druggie, but also if you have a deep wound and are afraid of pointed objects like needles.
As they say…
Necessity is the mother of invention.
One nurse in a government hospital used Fevikwik, available in every store, to patch up the wound. We know Fevikwik, an easy-to-use adhesive, is much easier to handle than thorn-like needles. You never run the risk of hurting yourself with Fevikwik. Can’t say the same with prickly needles.
Unfortunately, she got suspended for her bold new idea. I guess that is the price you have to pay for being brave.
The staff defended herself by saying:
“Stitches would leave scars on the face and I had been doing this for years”.
All are legitimate reasons, who wants to have a big scary scar on their face in this Instagram age?
We have got to give it to her. Just focus on the latter half of the sentence: “I had been doing this for years”. She is speaking from her experience as science would call “Empirical Evidence”.
If she had been doing this for years, that means they ignored her all these years. Possibly, they laughed at her as well. Now, she is at the fight stage of resistance as Mahatma Gandhi would say:
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
If she were given few more years, she would have come up with another brilliant idea like using cement + sand for fixing even deeper cuts. Now, we will never know whether this idea will ever work.
All hope is not lost, a surgeon, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he was very much inspired by her bravery to try out a new idea regardless of the consequences. He said he also had an idea that he wanted to test but was always afraid to do so. But, he now feels less afraid thanks to the trailblazing nurse. His brilliant idea is to use a chain saw to perform amputation and also in other operations especially where there is a time constraint.
