“in my first few months at work, I made some real gaffes”
My staff’s biggest fear was that I’d make a “gaffe,” the expression used by the press to describe any maladroit phrase by a candidate that reveals ignorance, carelessness, fuzzy thinking, insensitivity, malice, boorishness, falsehood, or hypocrisy – or is simply deemed to veer sufficiently far from the conventional wisdom to make said candidate vulnerable to attack
Barack Obama, A Promised Land (2020)
Following is the curated list of embedded youtube videos of gaffes committed by BJP politicians. Have fun watching them.
Nalin Kumar Kateel’s Statement to Focus on Love Jihad
Nalin Kumar Kateel made this statement 4 months before the election. After getting a lot of flack for this statement, BJP realized that it is not working and they should stop it and they did for a few months until they picked it up again just a few days before the election by conflating two – Bajrang Bali and Bajrang Dal.
Nadda’s statement about Modi’s blessings
“If you want to continue to receive Modi’s Blessing, then vote for BJP so development can continue in Karnataka “
This can take on multiple meanings. Is it only a Blessing or “Something else cloaked in Blessing” – Tax devolution, Central aid, Central governments’ treating Karnataka equally as other BJP-ruled states? The statement left much room for interpretation and the wording of the statement is the same wording you might have heard in movies if someone is blackmailing.
Modi’s statement about Congress abusing him 91 times
Though the whole exchange was started by Mallikarjun Kharge with an indelicate Visha Sarpa statement, I have to say Priyanka Gandhi gave a powerful response to Modi. After this, #CryPMPayCM was trending for some time.
